Sanderson Claims Player of the Week Honors

Senior forward scored three goals and added an assist
Memphis senior forward Valerie Sanderson was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following her performances from the opening weekend of the season.

Sanderson started her season off with an assist on Marie Levasseur's game-tying goal in the season opener against Southeastern Louisiana. She then notched her first goal of the new campaign to make the Tigers' lead 3-1 over the Lions.

The Boisbriand, Quebec native, was lethal in Sunday's match against Western Kentucky, scoring two goals to give Memphis a 2-0 win. Sanderson scored her first goal on a header from a corner kick in the 67th minute and sealed the win with another headed goal, this time from a free kick, in the 71st minute.

For the weekend she had three goals and one assist for seven total points, upping her career point total to 90. She has 39 career goals and 12 assists in 61 career matches played.

Freshman Jessica Lisi was named to the weekly Honor Roll after she assisted on both of Sanderson's goals on Sunday.

The Tigers will embark on their first road trip of the season next weekend with matches against Ole Miss on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Little Rock Sunday at 7 p.m. Memphis will return to Mike Rose Soccer Complex against UMKC on Friday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m.
