Tigers Picked to Finish Third in the West

Memphis hosting three of the top four teams in the votes at the Liberty Bowl this season.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis football team was picked to finish third in the West Division of the American Athletic Conference's preseason media poll, Tuesday. Houston, the defending conference champs, was picked to win the west, receiving all 30 first place votes for 180 total points. Navy was picked second with 128 points, with Memphis just behind Navy with 124 points.
The East was a bit more divided. USF received 15 first place votes and 164 points in being named the pre-season favorite to win the East. Temple (144) and Cincinnati (130) rounded out the top three in the East.
Memphis, who has won 19 games over the past two seasons, will host all three teams that received votes to win the American Championship game this season at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Memphis will host Temple, picked to finish second in the East, but receiving one vote in the championship game poll, on Thursday, Oct. 6th in a game that will be nationally-televised on ESPN. The Tigers will host USF, who received two points in the championship poll, on Nov. 12th, and will host preseason favorite Houston on Friday, Nov. 25th.
Season tickets for the complete seven-game home slate are on sale now starting at just $100. Also on sale now are new chair back seats between the 20-yard lines on both sides of the stadium. The chair back seats feature cup-holders and armrests and an additional seven inches of seating area compared to the seats they are replacing.
