Tigers Arrive in Jackson for Three-Day Camp

Head Coach Mike Norvell takes his Tigers on the road
JACKSON, Tenn. – Football has returned to Lambuth.
Each fall from 1985 until 2010, Lambuth University fielded a football team. Once the school fell on financial hard times though it ceased its operations and ended the football program. The University of Memphis stepped in to keep the campus alive, establishing the Lambuth campus in 2011, but until now football hadn't been back.
Memphis head football coach Mike Norvell saw an opportunity to take his team out of its daily routine in Memphis, while connecting the Lambuth Campus and the city of Jackson to the Bluff City.
"For us it's all about continuing to build the bond," Norvell said. "We talk about family. To be able to get away for just a little bit, to get out of the city and go to a new place is important. We're not going to be focused on any of the stuff that's outside, other than building our team."
Wednesday the Memphis Tiger football team took its show on the road to UofM Lambuth where the team will spend the next three days practicing and participating in teambuilding away from Memphis.
The Tigers held their eighth practice of the 2016 preseason on Wednesday morning before loading up five busses and an equipment semi truck bound for Jackson. Immediately upon arrival the team broke for meetings and then hit the field for a walk-through on the field, which was freshly lined by the Memphis Turf Staff.
The next few days will be about improving on the field with meetings, practices and walk-throughs scheduled each day, but the Tigers' time in Jackson is also being used to help the players grow in other ways. The team will hear a message from guest speaker C.L. "Shep" Sheperd on the first night and will participate in "camp fires" the other nights.
The week will culminate on Saturday with an open scrimmage at Trinity Christian Academy in Jackson at 10 a.m. The scrimmage will be followed by a meet and greet with Coach Norvell and the Memphis Tiger coaching staff.
