Memphis Shows Academic Strength in Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards

Tigers lead conference for third straight season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the third-consecutive year, the University of Memphis led the American Athletic Conference in Team Academic Excellence Awards, the league office announced Wednesday. Memphis had a conference-high five award recipients in 2015-16 and in 2014-15, after having a league-best six winners in 2013-14.
The five Memphis programs to earn American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards were: women's cross country, women's indoor track and field, women's outdoor track and field, men's tennis and women's soccer.
The Tigers women's cross country and women's soccer programs received Team Academic Excellence Awards for a second-straight year.
The American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards are given to programs with the highest collective grade-point averages in each of the 21 league-sponsored sports. The teams' cumulative GPAs are calculated from each student-athlete that appeared on the roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each sport.
