Tiger Quartet Named to Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team

Sydney Chung, Eithel McGowen, Thomas Perrot, and Lars van Meijel all earn the award
NORMAN, Okla. – University of Memphis golfers Sydney Chung, Eithel McGowen, Thomas Perrot, and Lars van Meijel have each been named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team for the 2015-16 season.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Chung averaged 74.7 strokes per round over 23 rounds during the season, including a season-low round of 68 at the NCAA Kohler Regional. He had a season-best finish of ninth at the Pinetree Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State University, when he finished three-over par with rounds of 73, 72, and 74.
McGowen competed in eight of nine events for the Tigers, and averaged 74.1 strokes per round, finishing in the top-20 three times. He closed his season strong over the final three events, shooting one stroke under par at the Maxwell with rounds of 70 and 69, before placing in a tie for 20th at the American Athletic Conference Championships. He ended the season with a one-over par 217 at the NCAA Kohler Regional, placing in a tie for 29th at the event.
Perrot was named to the American Athletic All-Conference squad, and to the PING Southeast All-Region Team. He averaged 71.8 strokes per round on the season, the second-lowest single-season average in program history. He had seven top-20 finishes during the season, and had a season-long aggregate of five strokes over par, despite shooting 21 strokes over par on the second round of the spring season. He finished as the runner-up at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship, and 21st at the NCAA Kohler Regional.
van Meijel became the program's third All-American, and the first in 30 years when he was given the honor by the Golf Coaches Association of America following the season. His 71.8 stroke per round average set a new single-season program record, while his average of 72.6 for his three seasons is the second-lowest career program total. His aggregate score of -10 at the Quail Valley Collegiate topped the previous record of -9 set by Kevin Fortin Simard at the Louisiana Classics in 2005-06.
