Carmichael 10th In Pole Vault At NCAA Championships Thursday

Hanssler places 17th in decathlon.
EUGENE, Ore. – University of Memphis' Carolina Carmichael placed in the top-10 in the women's pole vault in second-day action at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships Thursday. She finished 10th in the event. On the men's side, Luis Hanssler was 17th in the men's decathlon.
The University of Oregon's Hayward Field is hosting the four-day national meet that began Wednesday.
For the third-straight year, Carmichael placed 10th in the women's pole vault, this time with a mark of 13-9.25 (4.20m). Her 13-9.25 vault tied her best mark in the event at the NCAA Championships.
The three-time American Athletic Conference women's pole vault title holder tied the height (13-9.25) with three others, but reached the height on her third attempt. The other three vaulters reached the height of 13-9.25 on their first attempt and all tied for seventh.
The Lake Forest, Ill., native now turns her attention to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., July 1-10.
Hanssler completed the second day of the men's decathlon and placed 17th. It was his best finish in the decathlon at the NCAA meet.
Like the first day, Hanssler's top performances were in the two track events – 110-meter hurdles and 1500 meters. The Tigers senior posted his best finish in Thursday's first event, the 110-meter hurdles. He placed fifth in a personal-best time of 14.48. The three-time American Athletic Conference men's decathlon champion's previous 110-meter hurdles best time was 14.60 which he set two weeks ago in winning the league's 2016 decathlon crown.
Hanssler scored 913 points in the 110-meter hurdles Thursday, his highest point total in a decathlon event at the NCAA Championships. Hanssler was eighth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:36.78.
The Ratingen, Germany, native's top field finishes were in the pole vault and javelin, where he placed 20th in both events. Hanssler had a 13-5.25 (4.10m) mark in the pole vault and recorded a 157-2 (47.90m) throw in the javelin. He was 23rd in the discus (112-4; 34.25m).
