Dean's List student to continue graduate studies at Memphis.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Beth Lee, a member of the University of Memphis rifle program from 2012-16, has received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for Winter Sports, the national organization announced Friday.
The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $7,500 are awarded for each of the three sport seasons (fall, winter and spring). In each sports season, there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
"Beth has worked hard and deserves it," said Tigers rifle head coach Butch Woolbright. "The classes Beth took for her degrees were extremely demanding, and the grades she earned says a lot about the effort and dedication she put in in her academic studies.
"Beth has really done well both in the classroom and on the range. I'm proud of her."
This past May, Lee graduated from the University of Memphis summa cum laude with a double major in anthropology and earth sciences/geoarchaeology. She had a final cumulative 3.92 grade-point average.
A Dean's List student all eight semesters of her undergraduate career, Lee was a three-time Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Scholar-Athlete her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns (2014, 2015, 2016). As a freshman in 2013, Lee was a Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient, in addition to being named to the C-USA Commisssioner's Honor Roll.
Lee also was a member of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 rifle teams that were honored with NCAA Public Recognition Awards for their high Academic Progress Rates (APR). The past two years, Tigers rifle posted perfect 1000 scores.
The Loudon, Tenn., native's postgraduate plans are to pursue a master's degree in archaeology and serve as a graduate assistant for the Tigers rifle program.
As a senior in 2015-16, Lee competed in both disciplines (smallbore/air rifle) in all 13 matches. She posted averages of 576.0 in smallbore, 589.4 in air rifle and 1165.4 in aggregate score. Lee improved her aggregate score average from 1160.1 her junior season to 1165.4 as a senior.
For her career, Lee was a three-time All-GARC honoree, earning league recognition for smallbore in 2013-14 and for both air rifle and aggregate score in 2015-16. She was a member of the 2013-14 Memphis squad that placed fourth at the NCAA Championships, the best team performance at the national event in the program's history. Lee also performed her best at the 2014 NCAA Championships, recording a career-high aggregate score of 1177.
