Six Lady Tigers in the event in Georgia, including incoming freshman Abby Herrmann.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team is well-represented at The Judson Collegiate at the Country Club of Roswell in Georgia this week. Memphis has six players competing in the event, including Megan Beane, Leighann Cabush, Sydney Colwill, Emily Goldenstein, Madison Thomas and incoming freshman Abby Herrmann.
Each year, the event invites 72 collegiate women's golfers from all levels of college play to compete in the four-day event, named for Jim and Beth Judson. The couple was flying home from Memphis after watching their daughter, Lauren, compete in a tournament as a member of the Southern Miss golf team, when their private plane crashed.
Lauren and her brother, Dean, formed the JCI Foundation in their parents' honor. The JCI Foundation has a goal of developing creative programming that educates, inspires and nurtures young women to become leaders both personally and professionally. Current programming is targeting two segments: female collegians (including, but not limited to athletes) and young professional women (2-5 years in the workplace). Each year, the foundation hosts the Judson Women's Leadership Conference.
In 2012, the siblings conducted their first event, which pairs female collegiate golfers with legends of women's professional golf, providing collegians access to successful professional women who could advise and mentor them as they move beyond college and in to their chosen careers. The event also helps fill a gap for collegiate women's golfers in that it allows golfers to compete in a world-ranked event as results count in individual's World Amateur Golf Rankings.
On Monday, the golfers were paired in teams that featured two collegians with three amateurs that work in each collegian's potential area of career interest. A three-day, stroke play event will begin for the collegians on Tuesday at 8 a.m., with an afternoon leadership workshop also on tap.
Live scoring from the event is available HERE beginning Tuesday.
