Year End Rankings: Team | Singles | Doubles
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team ended the year in the national rankings of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls released earlier this week. As a team, Memphis finished the season, which included a third NCAA appearance in four seasons, as the number 40 ranked team in the country. In addition, sophomores Andrew Watson and Ryan Peniston capped the year in the final singles rankings of the season. Watson finished his season ranked number 81 in the country, while Peniston was just behind him at No. 89.
Watson and freshman Chris Patzanovsky also ended the year in the national doubles rankings at number 82.
Memphis, which finished the year at 14-11 overall, will return six of the seven letterwinners from this season, including Watson and Peniston and fellow rising juniors Kai Lemke and Shakeel Manji. Sophomores Chris Patzanovsky and Felix Rauch will also return, while the roster will gain the services of Matthew Story and Turner Voges, who both redshirted this season. Newcomer Jan Pallares will also start his collegiate career at Memphis this fall, having just won a Futures doubles title in his native Spain last week.
The Tiger roster spent the entire year among the national rankings in the ITA, posting a school record number 17 ranking earlier this season after a win at then-No. 19 ranked Ole Miss. That marked the third straight season the men's tennis team ranked in the top 25 in the national polls during the season.
