Summer Baseball Update – June 17

Scattered across the country, 17 Memphis baseball players have started their summer seasons and the traveling Tigers have had a strong start.
Infielder Trent Turner has unquestionably had the hottest start, batting .350 in 10 games for the Brockton Rox of the Futures League. He started the season with a seven-game hitting and had multiple-hits in the first six contests. He has three doubles, two home runs, 13 runs scored and eight driven in.
Turner's teammate with the Rox, James Muse, has started twice on the mound and has a 2.00 ERA in nine innings pitched. He ha struck out nine batters and allowed just two earned runs.
Two-way player Colton Neel has picked up where he left off for the Tigers, playing nine games in the field and batting .308 as well as making three appearances as a reliever for the Springfield Sliders. Catcher Jason Santana has made six starts for the Sliders and is batting .333 with three RBI.
Colton Hathcock and Connor Alexander have each made their Cape Cod League debuts for the Orleans Firebirds. Hathcock started in his debut and pitched four innings, allowing three unearned runs and striking out out four. Alexander logged three innings in relief and allowed one run on four hits.
Nick Vaage, Nate Fichtner and Bryan Cruse have each appeared for Licking County. Vaage has played in nine games and has three doubles, five RBI and three runs scored. In his last start he had a 4-for-5 performance. Fichtner has started four games in the infield and has a two-hit game with a double. Cruse has started twice on the mound and was dominant in his last outing, allowing one unearned run in five innings with six strikeouts.
Kyle O'Keefe had a scorching start for the Hoptown Hoppers and still has an on base percentage of .426 in 11 games played. He has eight runs scored and six runs driven in. Tyler Walton has started twice on the mound for the Hoppers and holds a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings pitched.
Left-hander Hunter Smith has also started twice in the Ohio Valley and recorded good numbers. Smith has a 3.60 ERA in 15 innings pitched for the Fulton Railroaders. He has 14 strikeouts to five walks. His teammate Alex Smith has pitched in relief and struck out seven batters in seven innings pitched. Jacob Elliott has played in 10 games for Fulton and is batting .206 so far during the summer.
Lefty Drew Crosby has made two relief appearances for the Plymouth Pilgrims and has yet to allow a run in 2 2/3 innings pitched.
Jonathan Bowlan and Alex Hicks have both started twice for the New Market Rebels. Bowlan's first start was outstanding, allowing just one run in seven innings pitched with five strikeouts. Hicks was also solid in his first start, logging six innings and striking out six.
