Wesner Punches NCAA Championships Ticket In High Jump Saturday

Tigers freshman placed second in event with personal-best mark.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of Memphis freshman Jordan Wesner punched his NCAA Championships ticket in the men's high jump with his top-12 finish in the event at Saturday's NCAA East Preliminaries.
Saturday's action wrapped up the three-day NCAA meet at University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Wesner tied a personal-best with a 7-1.5 (2.17m) jump Saturday and placed second overall. The top-12 marks in the high jump advanced to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11.
The Princeton, Wis., native's 7-1.5 high jump mark tied his personal-best which he set two weeks ago with a second-place performance at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
For the third-straight day, Memphis had another near-qualifier for the NCAA Championships. On Saturday, junior Martina Rodriguez Sala placed one spot shy of advancing in the women's 1500 meters. She finished 13th in a time of 4:22.04. The top-12 runners advanced to the NCAA Championships, and the 12th-place finisher posted a time of 4:20.90, only :01.14 ahead of Rodriguez Sala.
In other action, Luke Vaughn placed 23rd in the men's shot put (57-5; 17.50m), and Chardae Greenlee was 32nd in the women's triple jump (41-1.75; 12.54m).
The Memphis track and field season continues at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11. The Tigers' three qualifiers for the NCAA Championships are Carolina Carmichael in the women's pole vault, Luis Hanssler in the men's decathlon and Jordan Wesner in the men's high jump.
