Smith was inducted into second class of the school's Hall of Fame
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Current University of Memphis head men's basketball coach Tubby Smith was inducted into the High Point University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday evening (May 21).
The Hall of Fame class is the second in the history of High Point University.
Smith, who is a 1973 graduate of High Point, was joined by Marie Riley, Kitty Steele, and Roger Watson as inductees.
Smith ranks seventh in HPU history in career scoring with 1,589 career points, and was named All-Carolina Conference as a senior.
One of the top head basketball coaches in the collegiate ranks, he has 557 wins over his 26 seasons, including a National Championship in 1998 with Kentucky. He is one of just seven active coaches to have 500 wins and a National Title on their resumes, and is one of two coaches to have led five schools to the NCAA Tournament. He was the 2016 Big 12 Coach of the Year in addition to being named the Sporting News National Coach of the Year, and received the 2016 John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award, and recently named as a winner of the Mannie Jackson - Basketball's Human Spirit Award.
