Tigers Sweep American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Honors

Lindsey Stickrod and Christian Novak are first Tigers to win award since May 4 of last season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Memphis junior Lindsey Stickrod and sophomore Christian Novak have swept American Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors after Memphis closed the week with a 3-1 record including an important series win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
Stickrod is the second American Conference Player of the Week in program history, joining Cierra Mangum from March 2, 2015. Novak is also the second player to win AAC Pitcher of the Week in Memphis history, joining Jordan Richwood who picked up the honor on May 4 last season.
For the week, Stickrod batted .462 with a .500 on-base percentage over the four games. She had a team-high six hits on the week, with two multi-hit games. She had three RBI's against Tulsa, as the Tigers picked up the series win over the Golden Hurricane, which put Memphis in third place in the conference standings with one week remaining.
She is batting .303 on the season for the Tigers with a team-high 10 doubles. She has five home runs and 31 RBI's, second-highest total on the team for each. She has also drawn eight walks and has an on-base percentage of .335 to go with a .467 slugging percentage.
Novak threw 11 scoreless innings against the Golden Hurricane, including a four-hit shutout in the second game of the series. On Sunday she made her second start of the weekend, and held Tulsa scoreless in her four innings of work in the no-decision, giving up just two hits.
Novak is 4-5 on the season after joining the Tigers in mid-season after a year and a half absence from the softball diamond due to a back injury. She has 36 strikeouts in 50.1 innings of work, and has a 3.89 ERA and two shutouts.
The Tigers return to action on May 6-8 when the team travels to Houston, Texas, to face off against the Cougars in the final American Athletic Conference weekend of the season.
