Tigers Fight Back, Climb a Position at NCAA Regionals

Thomas Perrot shoots two-under par to lead the Tigers
KOHLER, Wis. – Thomas Perrot shot a two-under par 70 to lead the Tigers, as Memphis jumped a spot in the team rankings, and are seven strokes away from sixth place in the field at the 2016 NCAA Kohler Regional.
The Tigers carded a second-round 293, tied for the sixth-best score on the day, and have a two-day score of 591. Florida continues to lead the field after a round-two 282 and a two-round total of 565. Illinois (572), Florida State (574), and Arkansas (576) round out the top four scores from the Blackwolf Run – Meadow Valley course, which is 7,123 yards long and is a par 72.
Memphis' 591 stands seven strokes away from sixth-place Baylor (584), with South Dakota State (587), Kent State (588), UCLA (588), East Tennessee State (588), and Penn State (590) easily within striking distance of the Tigers in the final round of the tournament.
Perrot's 70 puts him at 145 over the two rounds, which is good for a tie of 18th place in the field. He opened the day strong, with an eagle on the par-five 11th hole, as Memphis opened the day on the 10th hole. After three straight pars, he bogeyed the par-three sixth hole, before closing the round with three straight pars to make the turn at one stroke under par.
Starting out the back nine he opened with a par, before birdying the second and fourth holes to drop him to four under par. Five consecutive pars was followed by a bogey on the par-four ninth hole, heading into the clubhouse at two strokes under par for the round.
Taylor McCullum opened with a par and a bogey out of the gate in the round, and followed with four straight pars. He then shot a birdie on the par-five 16th hole, dropping him back to even par. He closed his first nine holes on the day with an even-par 36.
After the turn, he turned in three straight pars. A birdie on the par-five fourth hole put him at one-under par, and answered with a bogey a hole later. He followed with three straight pars before he closed his round with a bogey, putting him at one over par into the clubhouse, putting him at three over par for the two rounds, which is tied for 38th in the field.
Junior Eithel McGowen had an up-and-down start to the day, as he opened with a par and a birdie; however, followed with a bogey and double bogey to put him at two strokes over par through four holes. A bogey on his sixth hole of the day pushed him to three over par.
The rest of his round he was stellar, as he had birdies on his seventh and 10th holes of the day, before a bogey on the par-five seventh hole, his next-to-last hole of the day, pushed him to two over par for the round, and four over for the tournament, which is tied for 43rd.
Lars van Meijel had an unusually rough open and close to the round, as he opened with a bogey, a double bogey, and following a par, bogeyed back-to-back holes to put him at five strokes over par through five holes.
He turned around his day, as the next 10 holes he was three-under par, closing his score to two strokes over par, before bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes pushed him to four over par for the round, a 76. His two-round score of 151 has him tied for 60th among the players in the field.
Sydney Chung struggled out of the gate in the round, as he opened with a par before carding five consecutive bogeys. After his second par of the round, he closed his first nine holes with a double bogey and another bogey, putting him at eight strokes over par through the first nine holes.
After the turn he quickly righted the ship with back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes, which was followed with five consecutive pars. A bogey on the 17th hole and a par on the 18th put him at one stroke under par over the back nine, and seven over for the round. His two-round total of 157 has him tied for 73rd in the field.
The Tigers return to action, as the squad opens the round on the 10th hole starting at 8:25 a.m.
