Lars van Meijel Announced as Semifinalist for Jack Nicklaus Award

van Meijel one of 30 Semifinalists NCAA Division I Player of the Year
NORMAN, Okla. – Memphis junior Lars van Meijel has been named one of 30 semifinalists for the Jack Nicklaus Award presented by Barbasol.
"We are excited for Lars to receive this award," said head coach Blake Smart. "He has worked tremendously hard all season, and this honor is proof that his hard work paid off in a big way."
Division I finalists for the award will be named on May 25. Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced June 2 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption in to the PGA Tour's Barbasol Championship, held on July 14-17, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National in Opelika, Alabama.
van Meijel leads the Tigers in scoring average, at 71.4 strokes per round, including a low round of 65. He has finished inside of the top-20 seven times in eight matches this year. He was the individual medalist at the Pinetree Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State University, and he has six top-seven finishes. He also has ten rounds in the 60's during the season.
He was recently named to the European Team for the Palmer Cup Team.
The Tigers travel to Lecanto, Florida on May 1-3 to compete in the American Athletic Conference Championships hosted at the Black Diamond Ranch; The Quarry Course.
