Track And Field Posts Nine Top-Four Performances Saturday

Green wins men's 400 meters, Carmichael second in women's pole vault.
AUBURN, Ala. – University of Memphis junior Juan Paul Green won the 400 meter run to lead the Tigers' effort in Saturday action at the 2016 Auburn University War Eagle Invitational. Overall, the Memphis men's and women's squads combined for nine top-four performances.
Green won the 400 meter run with a season-best time of 47.68 seconds. Junior Christopher Walker was Memphis' second-highest finisher in the 400 meters, crossing the line in fourth with a time of 48.33 seconds.
Other top-four finishers on the men's side were: Matthew Viveiros third in the 1500 meters, Davon DeMoss fourth in the 100 meters and Luis Hanssler fourth in the long jump. Viveiros' time of 3:58.47 was over six seconds better than his previous 1500 meters best this season. DeMoss ran a 10.56 in the 100 meters finals, but his 10.53 time in the event's preliminaries was a season best.
The pole vault group paced the Tigers women's squad in Saturday's meet. In the women's pole vault invitational, Carolina Carmichael and Clara Amat-Fernandez finished second and third, respectively. Carmichael's 14-2 (4.32m) mark was her best of the 2016 outdoor season and is ranked eighth nationally. Amat-Fernandez's 13-8.25 (4.17m) vault is ranked 24th nationally.
Jada Parker placed third in the other women's pole vault event. Lauren Wheeler was the only other top-four finisher on the women's side, placing fourth in the 1500 meters (4:47.07).
The Tigers return to action Saturday, Apr. 30 when they host the Memphis Invitational on the University of Memphis' Park Avenue campus.
