Molly Smith Named to American Athletic Conference Honor Roll

Sophomore struck out 18 batters in 18 innings of work
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a 2-1 series win over the East Carolina Pirates, Memphis sophomore pitcher Molly Smith was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll.
The honor is Smith's third of the 2016 season.
Playing in a four-game road swing, Smith pitched in every contest during the week, going 2-2 in the circle. She pitched 18 innings, striking out 18 batters with a 2.72 ERA. Opponents hit just .227 against her, as she walked seven batters and gave up eight extra-base hits.
She pitched a complete-game shutout in the series opener against East Carolina, striking out seven and walking three batters. Two days later she went the full seven innings again, allowing two runs while striking out seven.
This season the Tigers are 20-20 on the year, and are led by Smith, who is 8-9 overall. She has a 2.49 ERA in 24 appearances (17 starts) and 106.2 innings of work. She has 95 strikeouts against just 40 walks, and opponents bat just .256 against her.
In AAC action, Smith is 4-1 in the circle and has a miniscule 0.98 ERA. Opponents bat just .191 against her, and she has struck out 34 batters in 28.2 innings in Conference play.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, April 12 in the first two games of a five-game homestand when the team hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
