Perrot Leads Field as Tigers Stand Fourth at Colleton River Collegiate

Perrot stands at one under par through two rounds
BLUFFTON, S.C. - Behind a stellar two rounds from senior Thomas Perrot, the Memphis Tiger golf team sits in fourth place after two rounds of the Colleton River Collegiate.
Memphis' two-round score of 601 came after nearly-even rounds of 300 and 301. North Texas is a spot ahead of the Tigers with a 600 Â (298-302), while UConn shot a two-round 598 (301-297). College of Charleston leads the field with rounds of 297 and 292 for a 589, and a nine-stroke lead on the field. Michigan State is tied with Memphis after two rounds (297-304), with Xavier (298-307-605), Miami (Ohio) (299-310-609), Cincinnati (307-302-609), Bowling Green (306-306-612), and Ball State (311-304-615) round out the top 10 in the field.
In his first round, Perrot started on the eighth hole, and scored an even par over his first three holes before recording a birdie on the par-five 11th hole. The Paris, France, native followed with a par on his next nine holes, before a double-bogey on the par-three third hole and a bogey on the par four fourth hole put his round score to two over par. He followed with back-to-back pars, before a birdie on his final hole put his first round score at one-over par.
In the second round, Perrot had four pars to open the round before he birdied the 12th, 14th, and 16th holes to put his second round total at three-under par. He scoring reached four under par with a birdie on the second hole; however a bogey on the 5th and 7th holes put him at two-under par for the round, and one under par for the day.
Junior Lars van Meijel - who started his round on the seventh hole - opened his first round with a pair of pars before bogeys on the ninth and tenth holes put him at two over par. The next nine holes saw van Meijel record a par, as over the last five holes he shot two under with birdies on the second and fifth holes, giving him an even-par total of 72 over the first 18 holes.
Starting again on the seventh hole, van Meijel opened with a birdie before picking up a bogey on the eighth hole. He notched a par on his next five holes, and birdied the 14th and 16th holes to put him at one under par. A triple-bogey on the 18th hole put the junior at two over par, and back-to-back bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes put him at four over par. van Meijel closed strong, however, with a birdie on the par-three sixth hole to score a second-round 75 and a two-round score of 147, which has him at ninth place after two rounds.
Taylor McCullum led his tee group in both rounds on the day, and started on the ninth hole with a birdie on the par-four opener. He followed with a bogey on the 10th hole, a birdie on the 11th, and a bogey on the 12th to put him at even par after the first four holes without a par. McCullum recorded his first pars of the tournament on the 13th and 14th holes; however, he recorded a bogey on the 15th, 18th, and sixth holes to give himself a three-over-par 75.
McCullum, a sophomore out of Hoover, Alabama, again started on the ninth hole and picked up a par in his first six holes of the second round. He followed with bogeys on the 15th, 17th, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th holes to put him at five over on the round, but closed strong with a birdie on the par-five eighth hole, putting him at four over (76) for the round and at 151 for the day- good for 22nd place in the field.
Rounding out the scoring group for the Tigers was junior Eithel McGowen, who carded back-to-back rounds of 80. McGowen opened his round on the eighth hole, and bogeyed his first three holes, before rebounding with three consecutive pars. He notched a double-bogey on the 14th hole, and bogeys on the 17th, 6th, and 7th holes for the eight-over 80 over the opening 18 holes.
On the second round of the day, McGowen opened with a birdie on the par-five eighth hole; however, had back-to-back bogeys on the 9th and 10th holes. He picked up a bogey on the 12th and 15th holes, and a double-bogey on the par-three third hole put him at five-over par through 14 holes. After a bogey on the par-four fourth hole he picked up a pars on the fifth and sixth holes, but closed the day with a double-bogey on the par-four seventh hole, and closed the day in 66th place.
Freshman Chase Harris carded back-to-back rounds of 84 to open the 2016 spring season, and struggled through each of the rounds. In the opening round, which he started on the ninth hole, he recorded seven pars, eight bogeys, and a pair of double-bogeys. He opened his second round strong with a birdie on the par-four ninth hole; however, six pars, nine bogeys and two double-bogeys gave him a second-round 84, standing 86th in the field with a 168.
Playing as a pre-determined individual, freshman J.C. Campbell carded rounds of 77 and 79, placing him in a tie for 49th overall in the field. Campbell, who opened the day on the 17th hole, picked up a par on the opening hole, before carding a bogey on the par-four 18th hole. Campbell answered with back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes, putting his total score at one under par. He then followed with back-to-back bogeys, which was answered with four straight pars. After four consecutive bogeys on the 9th through 12th holes, he added two pars, a bogey, and a birdie over his final four holes of the opening round for the 77.
Campbell's second round saw the Dallas native par the opener, before a triple-bogey 18th hole put him at three over par for the round. A birdie on his third hole of the round (the first hole of the course) but the aggregate score to two over par; however, he bogeyed three of the next four holes to put him five over par. After three straight pars, he recorded another bogey, and a double-bogey on the 12th hole put him at eight-over par. He closed strong with three pars and a birdie (on the 14th hole) to close the round with a 79, and a two-round total of 156.
The Tigers return to action for the third and final round of the Colleton River Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State University, on Tuesday, March 8.
