Memphis Falls to Arkansas State

Six different pitchers threw for Memphis in the game and combined to walk eight batters and hit five batters. Bryan Cruse tossed three scoreless innings of relief for his career long outing.
Arkansas State opened the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the first inning. The leadoff batter bunted for a base hit and went to second base on an errant throw. He was sacrificed to third base with a bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly.
The Red Wolves loaded the bases with one out in the second and scored two more unearned runs in the inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Memphis had to go to the bullpen with one out in the top of the third inning. Reliever Drew Crosby was able to strikeout out two batters to end the inning without A State extending the lead.
Jake Overbey got the Tigers on the board with his first career home run, a towering solo shot to left field.
Two more Red Wolf runs came home in the fourth inning after a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch to make the score 5-1.
The rout was on in the fifth when four more Arkansas State runs crossed the plate to make the score 9-1.
Memphis cut into the lead with three runs in the sixth inning. Brandon Grudzielanek and Jacob Elliott drove in runs in the inning. The Tigers scored another on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
A two-run home run in the top of the ninth made the score 11-5.
