Women’s Golf Defeats Delaware at SDSU March Mayhem

Whisenant and Goldenstein each win respective matches 2&1

MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team won its match play contest on Tuesday against Delaware in the San Diego State University March Mayhem tournament, 3.5-1.5. Senior Ashleigh Whisenant and sophomore Emily Goldenstein each won their respective matches 2&1 and Madison Thomas, Sydney Colwill and Leighann Cabush were all square at the end of their days to move to a fourth round match against UC Davis, Wednesday.

Memphis started Tuesday morning needing to finish off the second round, which was called due to darkness. Against Cal, Memphis fell 4-1. Thomas and Colwill were both even in their matches to post the Tigers' point, but it wasn't enough to move Memphis in to the next level bracket. The win over Delaware, however, did, and Memphis, who was seeded 13^th in the 16-team draw that featured nine top 25 programs, is playing in the 13^th place bracket on Wednesday against UC Davis.

Tee times on Wednesday will begin with Ashleigh Whisenant's time at 7:45 a.m. Goldenstein (7:57), Thomas (8:09), Colwill (8:21) and Cabush (8:33) will follow.
