Tigers Track and Field Posts Seven Top-Five Finishes At Alabama Relays

Rodriguez Sala wins women's 1500m, Louis third in men's 1500m.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Martina Rodriguez Sala won the 1500 meter run and also placed 10th in the 800 meters to lead the University of Memphis track and field squads' efforts at the rain-shortened 2016 John Mitchell Alabama Relays Saturday.
The Alabama Relays started Thursday, but as a result of inclement weather, only four events were completed Thursday and Friday. The weather forced 14 events to be cancelled.
Rodriguez Sala won the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:24.22 and also was the Tigers' highest finisher in the 800 meters (10th) in a time of 2:15.11.
The Tigers women's team had three other top-five performances. In the javelin, Jasmine Wilson finished third (145-3) and Ashley Pryke fifth (142-5). Clara Amat-Fernandez, won the American Athletic Conference indoor pole vault title Feb. 28, was third in the pole vault (13-3.5) at Saturday's meet.
The Memphis men's team posted three top-five showings. Leading the way for the Tigers men's squad was Corentin Louis, who placed third in the 1500 meter run (3:52.48).
Jason Kimmet and Michael Criticos recorded the men's other two top-five performances. Kimmet finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (54.29), and Criticos was fifth in the javelin (226-0). Criticos' mark was a little over four feet shy of the men's javelin school record.
