Men’s Tennis Grabs Pair of Wins to Wrap up San Diego Stint

Memphis moves to 9-7 on the year with two wins in California.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team closed out the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic with a pair of wins to move to 9-7 on the season. Memphis defeated host San Diego State, 4-0, then Saturday, defeated No. 46 Denver, 4-2, to close out the tournament.
On Friday, it was the Germans on the roster who powered Memphis to a 4-0 win over San Diego State after Memphis won the doubles point. Sophomore Kai Lemke won his match at three singles, 6-3, 6-2, and freshmen Chris Patzanovsky and Felix Rauch added wins at four and five singles for the decisive 4-0 win.
On Saturday, it was the Brits turn. After Memphis again won at one and three doubles to take a 1-0 lead in the match, sophomores Andrew Watson, Ryan Peniston and Shakeel Manji all won in straight sets to fight off a Denver squad that grabbed wins at three and four singles to pull in to the thick of things in the match. Watson won at one, 7-6 (6), 6-0, while Peniston won at two, 6-3, 6-3. Manji won his match at six singles, 6-2, 6-2.
