Fuqua-Bey Named To AAC Weekly Honor Roll

Tigers senior nearly averaged a double-double with 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis' Asianna Fuqua-Bey has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Tuesday.
It is her first conference weekly honor roll recognition this season and also the first of her career.
In addition, it is the fourth-consecutive week a Tigers player has earned the league's weekly recognition. Ariel Hearn was named to the conference's weekly honor roll Feb. 8 and Feb. 15, and Mooriah Rowser earned the accolade Feb. 22.
Last week, Fuqua-Bey helped lead the Tigers to a 2-0 record. Memphis posted a thrilling 93-83 overtime win over East Carolina on the Tigers' "Senior Day" Feb. 27 and then defeated Houston 77-64 on the road in the regular-season finale Feb. 29.
For the week, Fuqua-Bey nearly averaged a double-double with 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two contests. The senior shot 63 percent from the floor and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. She also had four assists and three steals.
In her "Senior Day" game win over East Carolina Feb. 27, Fuqua-Bey scored 21 points, which, at that time, tied her career high. She grabbed eight rebounds and added three assists and two steals in the victory. With her eight rebounds, Fuqua-Bey moved into the No. 7 spot on the Tigers all-time rebounds chart with 791 boards.
The Chicago, Ill., native then topped her career scoring high against Houston Feb. 29. She netted 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Fuqua-Bey also pulled down 11 rebounds for her ninth career double-double. The 11 boards pushed her career total to 802, making her the seventh player in program history with over 900 points and 800 rebounds in a career.
Memphis (18-11, 12-6 The American) wrapped up the No. 4 spot outright in the American Athletic Conference regular-season standings and is the league tournament's No. 4 seed. The Tigers face Tulane (20-10, 11-7 The American) in a quarterfinal match-up Saturday, Mar. 5 at 11 a.m. (CT).
