Memphis Women’s Soccer Signs Eight

The University of Memphis women's soccer team received national letters of intent from eight student-athletes who inked on National Signing Day, Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Thursday.
The class consists of several extremely versatile players that will look to fill the spots left by four graduating seniors. Additionally five more Canadian players will join the 10 already on the Tigers' roster.
"We are really excited about this class. We feel like we have a lot of talent but we also feel like we have a very versatile group," Monaghan said. "These players can play multiple positions and fill multiple roles for our team. You go into each recruiting cycle having to fill certain needs and we feel we've done a good job on paper with this group. Not only is this group very talented on the soccer field but they are very focused in the classroom. I really like the character of this group."

Serena Dolan – Midfielder/Forward – Kentville, Nova Scotia
Serena Dolan, the Kentville, Nova Scotia native, will join the Memphis Tigers for the 2016 season. Dolan plays as an attacking midfielder for Kings Rural High School, along with being a standout athlete in basketball and hockey. With her club team, Valley United, Dolan was a part of a regional championship team from 2012-15. In 2014-15 she led her team to a provincial championship. She also shines academically, being recognized in 2012-15 as an honors student, two of those years with distinction. Dolan is the daughter of Tom and Sharon Dolan.
Dolan chose the University of Memphis Athletics because she likes the campus and the energy that comes with it. She is also excited to play for a great soccer program with a so many talented players. Dolan's hobbies include playing basketball and hockey. Her favorite form of recreation is running.
"We have never had a player from Nova Scotia but I feel personally that she is the top player out of her province," said Monaghan. "We are recruiting her as an attacking center mid and she is a player that possesses great vision, she is very technical, she is athletic and she is good on the dribble. We believe Serena has the ability to play several positions."

Scarlett Hodges – Defender – Madison, Miss.
Scarlett Hodges plays as a center back for Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi where she was a member of two straight state championship teams as a sophomore and junior. In addition to lettering in soccer, basketball, volleyball and track, she received first team All-State honors in soccer. She led her club team, the Mississippi Rush, to one state championship and four GSPL championships. She has also been a member of the Region III ODP pool. Hodges is ranked in the top-10 academically of her graduating class, earning a citizenship award and being recognized as a member of the All "A" Honor Roll. Hodges is the daughter of Jeff and Lisa Hodges.
Hodges chose the University of Memphis because she likes the city and the opportunities that the university provides. Her favorite hobbies include playing sports, attending church and playing with her dogs. Hodges' favorite forms of recreation are hiking, white water rafting and ziplining.
"We look at Scarlett as a defender. She could play as a center back or an outside back. She is very athletic and she has some grit about her. We see some very good leadership qualities within her. Her mentality is what we look for in a player. She is a winner and she possesses all of the attributes that you look for in a defender," Monaghan said.

Jessica Lisi – Midfielder/Forward – Woodbridge, Ontario
Jessica Lisi is a midfielder from Woodbridge, Ontario. She attends St. Elizabeth Catholic High School where she plays as a forward. She has won many honors with her club team, the Woodbridge Strikers under the direction of Joe Parolini, including OYSL Golden Boot (2011, 2013 and 2015), 2015 League 1 Ontario Youth Player of the Year and League 1 Ontario All-Star Starting XI recognition. Lisi has also been a part of the Canadian youth national program. Additionally she has excelled academically, being named to the Honor Roll at her high school. Lisi is the daughter of Ron and Benia Lisi.
Lisi's hobbies include playing soccer and singing. Her favorite forms of recreation are playing volleyball, basketball and track and field.
"Jessi has some experience with the youth national team and is another player that is very versatile," Monaghan said. "She can play as a forward, as an attacking center mid or even in the back. She is just an all around very good soccer player. She is a very good distributer of the ball and has a knack for scoring goals."

Jamiera Lunsford – Forward – Cincinnati, Ohio
Jamiera Lunsford, a Cincinnati native, played soccer for Walnut Hills High School where she spent time at forward and midfielder. She was honored as a member of the All-Region and All-City teams. She also led her club team, the Kings Hammer Soccer Club, to three straight state championships (2013-15). Academics are also important to Lunsford, being named to the Honor Roll at her high school. Lunsford is the daughter of Rashid and Yvonne Lunsford.
Lunsford chose the University of Memphis because it was the best fit for her. It is everything she looked for in a college and really makes her feel at home. Her favorite hobbies include shopping, hanging out with her friends, working out and watching movies.
"We were very fortunate to add Jamiera a little late to this class. She is extremely athletic. I see her as either an outside forward or converting to an outside back. She is very fast and strong. I believe that once she spends time in our environment she is only going to get better technically, which will only make her that much more of a threat. You won't find much of a better athlete than Jamiera," said Monaghan.

Stasia Mallin – Defender – Carmel, Ind.
Stasia Mallin, a two-year letterwinner, plays defender for Carmel High School where she was a part of the 2013 and 2015 Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference champion team. She also earned All-Conference and Academic All-State honors. She excelled on her five-time state champion club team, Ohio Premier ECNL, where she was listed in the top-10 ECNL Defense in 2013. She is serious about her studies, earning the highest GPA on her varsity soccer team and plans on majoring in Pre-Med at the University of Memphis. Mallin is the daughter of Kevin, former ice hockey player at Miami of Ohio, and Heidi Mallin, former national level figure skater.
Mallin chose the University of Memphis because she plans on going pre-med and will have the opportunity to play collegiate soccer at a high level. She wanted to explore opportunities out of state and play somewhere warmer than Indiana. Mallin's hobbies include baking, playing with her dog, watching the TV show "Friends," listening to Taylor Swift and hanging out with friends. Her favorite forms of recreation are running, basketball, figure skating, water skiing, snow skiing and fishing.
"Stasia is another very talented defender in this class, who I see playing as an outside back," Monaghan said. "She has good athleticism and speed. She really suits our system in regards to the way we play, building out of the back. She is a tough kid that is very good on the tackle. She has all of the tools that we look for in a defender."

Selena Mangoni – Defender – Aurora, Ontario
Selena Mangoni plays for Villanova College High School where she shares time at leftback and midfield. Her team was OFSAA champions in 2014 where she earned Junior Soccer MVP honors. Mangoni has played for several club teams, helping lead Aurora to two Ontario Cup championships and North Missisauga to an OYSL League championship. She most recently played for the Woodbridge Strikers in League 1. She has also been a member of the Ontario Provincial Team. Mangoni excelled academically, being named to the Honor Roll all four years. Mangoni is the daughter of Robert Mangoni and Rosie Sciannella.
Mangoni chose the University of Memphis because she is excited about playing for head coach Brooks Monaghan. Her hobby is art and her favorite form of recreation is playing soccer.
"Selena is another talented Canadian that will be joining us this fall. We see her as a great addition to our backline. She really has some toughness to her and loves to go forward. She has all of the tools to be a very good outside back at this level. I feel like the sky is the limit for Selena," said Monaghan.

Mikayla Morton – Forward – Courtice, Ontario
Mikayla Morton, a Courtice, Ontario native, plays striker for Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. She is a very active high school athlete, competing in volleyball, badminton, tennis, basketball and beach volleyball. Morton plays club soccer for the Darlington Fusion, where she won a provincial championship and she also spent time with the Woodbridge Strikers. With the Fusion, Morton has led the league in scoring from 2009-14. She is a four-time Honor Roll honoree. Morton is the daughter of Sandy and Dean Morton, a former NHL player and current NHL referee.
Morton chose the University of Memphis because her goal is to reach the national team and she believes that the Tigers' coaching staff can help her achieve that goal. She also enjoyed the campus and the warm weather. Morton's hobbies include snowboarding, watersports, biking and guitar. Her favorite forms of recreation are playing beach volleyball and pick up soccer.
"Mikayla is a true No. 9 in my eyes," Monaghan said. "She is very strong on the ball and good with her back to the goal. She reminds us of Valerie Sanderson, who will be a senior for us this year. She has a good shot, a knack for the goal and she is extremely dangerous around the box. She is a goal scorer."

Maddy Uenking – Defender/Midfielder – Apex, N.C.
Maddy Uenking comes to Memphis from Apex High School where she has been an All-State performer. While recognized as a forward for her high school, she shines as a center back for her club team 97 CASL ECNL. She has a member of the North Carolina State ODP team and the Region III Team. Uenking has excelled in the classroom as well, being named to the AB Honor Roll all four years of high school. At Apex High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Heather and Tom Uenking.
Uenking chose the University of Memphis because of the excellent nursing program and soccer program. Her hobbies include working out, watching movies and hanging out with friends. Her favorite form of recreation is going to the beach or the lake.
"We are expecting Maddy to come in and play as a center back for us," Monaghan said. "She already has the physical qualities to come in and play at our level. She is strong and good in the air. She also possesses great leadership qualities which are extremely important for a center back. She is the type of player that plays with her heart on her sleeve."
