Tigers fall to top 10 ranked team on the road.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis men's tennis team (7-4) suffered a 4-0 loss at #10 Oklahoma (7-4), Monday to wrap up a Texas/Oklahoma road trip that saw Memphis play road matches at three straight ranked opponents. It was just the second match of the season outdoors for the Tigers, who also played outside at No. 34 ranked Baylor, Saturday.
After the #35 ranked team of Alex Gilea and Andrew Harris won at one doubles, Memphis answered back with a 6-4 win from the tandem of Shakeel Manji and Andrew Watson. When Manji and Watson won their match at three, the duo of Ryan Peniston and Felix Rauch were down 5-4 at number two. The tandem came back for 5-5, but Oklahoma was not going to let them come any closer, winning the match 7-5.
OU then grabbed straight set wins at one, five and six singles to complete the win. With Memphis driving back tonight for Tuesday classes, the remaining matches were abandoned.
The Tigers will have a short turnaround in Memphis. The team will step back in to conference play on Sunday, playing at nationally-ranked Tulane at 1 p.m.
