Fister Selected To Shoot At NCAA Rifle Championships

Tigers junior to compete in smallbore at nationals for a second-straight season.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the third season in a row, junior Amy Fister will represent the University of Memphis rifle program at the NCAA Rifle Championships. The 2016 NCAA Rifle Championships are scheduled for Mar. 11-12 at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.
For the second-straight year, the Kutztown, Pa., native will compete in the smallbore discipline. At the 2015 NCAA Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska, Fister, then a sophomore, placed 20th in smallbore with a 577 score.
In her first collegiate season in 2013-14, Fister was a member of the Tigers rifle squad that placed fourth overall at the 2014 NCAA Championships, the highest team finish in the program's history. Memphis placed third in smallbore at the 2014 championships.
Fister earned All-America honorable mention recognition in smallbore in 2013-14. She also garnered All-Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) honorable mention accolades in smallbore in both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
In 2015-16, Fister competed in all 12 smallbore competitions this season and posted an average score of 579.6 in the discipline. Her 2015-16 smallbore average was 3.8 points better than last season's 575.8 average.
She shot a season-high 584 in smallbore twice, with both coming the last two weeks in a dual match against Ole Miss Feb. 9 and at the NCAA Sectional Qualifier Feb. 20. Fister had three first-place smallbore performances against Nebraska Oct. 24 (583), Navy Nov. 14 (580) and Ole Miss Feb. 9 (584).
This season, Fister posted her career-high aggregate score of 1174 versus Ole Miss Feb. 9. She had aggregate scores of 1170 or higher four times in 2015-16.
The Tigers are in action this weekend at the GARC Championships in Oxford, Miss. The annual league championships match is the final team competition of the 2015-16 campaign.
