Third-straight week a Tiger has earned conference recognition.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis' Mooriah Rowser has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday.
It is her first conference weekly honor roll recognition this season and the third of her career. In addition, Rowser was named the league's Freshman of the Week twice in the 2013-14 campaign.
Last week, Rowser helped lead the Tigers to a 1-1 record. The victory was a thrilling NCAA-record tying five-overtime win over Temple Feb. 18. Memphis won 100-97. In their Feb. 21 contest at USF, the Tigers put together a valiant effort, but dropped a 97-82 road decision to the No. 19/20 nationally-ranked Bulls.
For the week, Rowser averaged 22.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in the two contests. She averaged 50 minutes played per game, seeing action in 100 of a possible 105 minutes in last week's two contests (64 minutes versus Temple; 36 versus USF). Her 64 minutes played in the five-overtime game against Temple is an NCAA Division I women's basketball record.
The Rockville, Md., native had 21 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in the 100-97 victory over Temple Feb. 18.
Rowser followed her "iron-woman" game against Temple with one of her best shooting performances of the season versus USF Feb. 21. The 5-foot-9 guard scored a game-high tying 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field (58.8 percent) and 4-of-8 from the three-point arc (50 percent). She also had two boards and two assists in 36 minutes of action against USF.
The senior single-handedly kept the Tigers close in the first period against USF. Rowser netted 14 of her 24 points in the opening quarter, hitting 6-of-8 from the field and 2-of-4 from the arc.
Memphis (16-11, 10-6 The American) takes the mid-week off from competition and returns to action Saturday, Feb. 27 when it hosts East Carolina (10-17, 4-11 The American) in an American Athletic Conference showdown. Game time is 2 p.m. (CT) from the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Prior to Saturday's tip, the Tigers' four seniors – Asianna Fuqua-Bey, Ariel Hearn, Rowser and Brianna Wright – will be honored. Senior Day ceremonies are slated to start around 1:40 p.m. (CT).
