Tigers Rifle Third At NCAA Sectional Qualifier

Fister, Lee lead Memphis with top-10 performances.
MURRAY, Ky. – The tandem of senior Beth Lee and junior Amy Fister led the University of Memphis rifle team to a third-place finish at last weekend's NCAA Sectional Qualifier. Fister and Lee placed sixth and eighth, respectively, in aggregate score.
The No. 9 nationally-ranked Tigers now wait to see if they qualified for the 2016 NCAA Championships Mar. 11-12 in Akron, Ohio. The announcement of the eight-team NCAA Championships field will be later this week as Memphis heads to the 2016 Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships in Oxford, Miss. Individual selections for the NCAA Championships also will be announced later this week.
Memphis placed third in both disciplines and aggregate score. The Tigers shot 2318 in smallbore – just one point behind Nebraska's 2319 – and hit a 2335 in air rifle. Memphis' aggregate score of 4653 was 15 points behind the Cornhuskers' second-place total of 4668. No. 2-ranked Murray State won the sectional title.
Fister posted the Tigers' top aggregate and smallbore scores. She was sixth in aggregate score (1171) and fourth in smallbore (584). Fister also placed in the top-10 in air rifle, shooting a 587. It was the second-straight match Fister posted an aggregate score of 1170 or higher. In the Feb. 9 match against Ole Miss, she shot a career-best 1174.
Lee was the squad's second-highest finisher in aggregate score and also had the team's top air rifle performance. She placed eighth in aggregate score (1170) and sixth in air rifle (589). Lee's 581 in smallbore was ninth.
Sophomore Makennon Doran recorded the squad's third-best aggregate score with his 1162. He placed in the top-20 in both smallbore (16th; 576) and air rifle (12th; 586). Freshman Sierra Czap had her best performance of the season with her 1160 aggregate score. She placed in the top-20 in both disciplines, coming in 17th in smallbore (576) and 18th in air rifle (584).
