Memphis Announces Toy Drive
Dec 05, 2016 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis today announced a partnership with Mayor Strickland and the City of Memphis to provide toys to under-privileged children in the Memphis area.
"There's nothing like the spark of hope and excitement in a child's eyes when they receive a new toy," said Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland. "As we celebrate Christmas, we must remember the folks who are still struggling, especially our children, so I hope those who are able will give."
The program will provide incentive for people in the Memphis area by offering a free men's basketball ticket for each new and unwrapped toy for the following home men's basketball games: Saturday December 10 vs. UAB, Tuesday, December 13 vs. Monmouth and Wednesday, December 21 vs. Incarnate Word.
"I encourage every Memphis basketball fan to support our toy drive to allow a young boy or girl to enjoy the spirit of the holiday season," said athletic director Tom Bowen.
Fans can bring their toys to the athletic ticket office in the Penny Hardaway Hall of Fame on Normal Street at any time, or bring them directly to the FedExForum on those three game days. Both locations will be able to provide the free ticket per toy received.
