Tigers Rifle Falls At No. 1 West Virginia

Clark sets season bests in smallbore, aggregate score.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – University of Memphis' Levi Clark posted season bests in smallbore and aggregate score, but is wasn't enough as the Tigers rifle squad fell at top-ranked West Virginia Saturday.
The Mountaineers won the match 4713-4650 over No. 14 Memphis. West Virginia won both the smallbore (2351-2310) and air rifle (2362-2340) disciplines.
Memphis now has an 11-3 record against ranked foes this season after Saturday's setback. The Tigers also dropped their first Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) match and fell to 5-1 in league action.
Clark, a freshman, led three Tigers that placed among the top-10 in aggregate score. Clark placed fifth overall, followed by Amy Fister in eighth and Jack Berhorst in 10th.
Clark's 1171 aggregate score was his season high, bettering his previous best of 1169 in the win at Army Oct. 10. He placed fifth in smallbore (584) and sixth in air rifle (587). His 584 smallbore score also was a season high.
Fister posted the match's eighth-best aggregate score with a 1165. She was seventh in smallbore (582) and 10th in air rifle (583). Berhorst was 10th, shooting an aggregate score of 1158. He was ninth in smallbore (575) and 11th in air rifle (583).
Junior Haylea Broughton shot a 587 in air rifle and was the Tigers' second-highest shooter in the discipline, placing seventh.
Memphis returns to action Nov. 12 when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, to shoot in the Buckeye Open. The match, which will include the nation's top programs, is a rehearsal for the NCAA Championships in March. Ohio State is the host site for the national event in March.
