Elliott also named Senior CLASS finalist.
MEMPHIS – Seniors Jake Elliott and Daniel Montiel were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Region 3 first team, Friday. This is the second straight season Montiel has earned a spot on the regional team and this is the third straight season Memphis has had a first team CoSIDA All-District honoree.
Both Elliott and Montiel will now appear on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
Montiel was also named to the first team all-region last season. A multiple-semester Dean's List honoree, he has appeared in 40 career games and has matched his career season best mark with 10 catches already this season. He also helped Memphis convert its first two-point conversion of the season in the Tigers' season opener and has volunteered at LeBonheur Children's Hospital. He is on track to graduate this spring with a degree in Liberal Studies with a 3.53 GPA.
Elliott is Memphis' all-time leading scorer, and in Memphis' last game, also became the program's career leader in field goals made. A Lou Groza semifinalist again this season for the third time in his Memphis career, Elliott has a 3.86 GPA in marketing management. Elliott has converted all 178 PATs in his collegiate career, the longest consecutive PAT made streak in NCAA FBS football. The defending, two-time American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, Elliott was also named a finalist for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award on Friday.
Elliott was one of 10 finalists for the award that honors on and off the field accomplishments, chosen from a field of 30 candidates. A fan vote counts for one third of the total vote tabulation for the Senior CLASS award with NCAA Division I coaches and national media members making up the remaining two thirds.
