MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Three Memphis women's soccer players have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Northeast Region Teams. Senior Valerie Sanderson earned first team honors and sophomores Olivia Gauthier and Marie Levasseur were named to the third team.
Sanderson, a four-time all-conference player, became the Tigers' all-time leading goal-scorer this season with 52 goals. The Boisbriand, Quebec native, also holds the program's career record with 122 points. She had 16 career game-winning goals and also holds the program record with 12 multiple-goal matches.
This season she scored 16 goals and finished with 39 points, which were both the most by a senior in school history. Sanderson is just the second four-time all-conference player in Memphis history after Vendula Strnadova was first team from 2007-10.
Gauthier captained the Tigers in all 20 matches this season and anchored the defense that posted seven shutouts. She started every match and led all of the Tigers with 1,846 minutes played. The Saint John, New Brunswick native, also had one assist this season.
Levasseur finished third on the team with 16 points on five goals and six assists. Three of the sophomore's goals were game-winners, including the double overtime winner in the regular season-finale against UCF. The Stoneham, Quebec City native, has 11 career goals and nine assists.
The Tigers finished the season with a 14-5-1 record and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011. Memphis finished second in the American Athletic Conference and was unbeaten at home, with an 8-0-1 record at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
