Dedric Lawson Named TSWA Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - University of Memphis sophomore forward Dedric Lawson has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday morning.
Lawson averaged 24.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for the Tigers, who went 2-1 on the week.
In the opening game of the week he scored 20 points with 10 rebounds and six assists against McNeese. Lawson hit 9-of-14 shots against the Cowboys, 2-of-4 from long range, and blocked three shots and added two steals.
In the team's loss on the week to Providence, he scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds with two assists and two blocked shots. He hit 7-of-19 shots against the Friars, and 2-of-8 from beyond the arc.
In the team's weekend-finale 100-92 win over Iowa he scored an American Athletic Conference-best 35 points, which is also tied for the fifth-most in a game in American Athletic Conference history. He tied an American Athletic Conference record with 15 made field goals on just 22 attempts (68.2 percent), and made 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Lawson also dished out three assists and had one blocked shot and one steal. He pulled down 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double in six games on the season, which is tied for the most in NCAA Division I this season. His 35 points against Iowa are the 17th-most in the NCAA this season, and he ranks 17th in the country in points per game. His 15 made field goals against Iowa are tied for the third-most in the country this season.
The Tigers are 5-1 on the season, and host Jackson State on Wednesday, November 30 at FedExForum, before traveling to Ole Miss for a noon tip-off on Saturday, December 3.
