Also named one of eight quarterbacks for the Manning Award Stars of the Week
MEMPHIS – Junior quarterback Riley Ferguson grabbed a pair of honors on Monday. Ferguson was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and was one of eight quarterbacks from across the country named a Manning Award Star of the Week.
Ferguson was 30-for-45 for a career-best 409 yards in a 48-44 win over nationally-ranked Houston in the regular season finale, Friday. Ferguson, who finished with four touchdown passes, found wide receiver Anthony Miller twice in the end zone for go-ahead touchdowns in the final 3:49 of the game.
In his first season at Memphis, Ferguson has gone 255-for-400 for 3,326 yards and 28 touchdowns against nine interceptions. The 28 touchdowns ties Paxton Lynch's single season record from last year and is second in single season yardage only to Lynch's 3,776 yards from 2015.
Fans can vote for The Manning Award's Quarterback of the Week by going to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page and voting for Ferguson.
Memphis is idle through the weekend, awaiting a Sunday word on the team's bowl destination. Thursday is study day at the University of Memphis and final exams begin on Friday.
Information on tickets for the Tigers' third consecutive bowl game in as many seasons will be available next week.
