"Lee University is a very well-coached team," said head coach Melissa McFerrin. "I like this exhibition game because they are going to force us to play disciplined. They're going to force us to guard screens, which is critical. They're going to have a game plan in place for how we're going to play offensively. I love playing against well-coached teams, and we're going to get that against Lee."
The Tigers return seniors Taylor Williams and Loysha Morris who saw quite a bit of playing time in 2015-16 and gladly welcome the return of Breigha Wilder-Cochran who missed most of the season due to injury.
"She's back," added McFerrin in reference to Wilder-Cochran. "That gives us a very important position where we are solid and we have an understanding of how things work."
Cheyenne Creighton, a junior forward for the Tigers, is the top returning scorer from the 2015-16 season with over six points per game. She also led the team in field goal percentage, coming in just shy of 60 percent for the year as a sophomore.
Lee University is a Division II institution based out of Cleveland, Tenn. where they are a member of the Gulf South Conference, one of the most dominating conferences in all of Division II.
In the preseason poll, Lee was selected to finish fourth in the GSC this season. Last year, the Lady Flames made it to the GSC Semifinals in its first year of eligibility. Lee's Erin Walsh was one of two players to be unanimous preseason all-conference selections.
Walsh, a junior, led Lee last season with 17.6 points per game. She was a 39.9 percent shooter from the field and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. Walsh started in every game for Lee last season.
Last season, the Lady Flames finished with a 20-10 overall record and 15-7 mark in the GSC. Lee is under the direction of Marty Rowe who is in his 13th season at the helm of the Lady Flames program.
The Tigers have 17 home games (including the exhibition) scheduled for the 2016-17 season, highlighted with Big 12 opponent Kansas, as well as perennial powers Vanderbilt and Louisiana Tech, as well as a full slate of conference games.
