Jackson South Signs with Memphis Baseball

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jackson South, a right-handed pitcher for Jackson State Community College, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Memphis baseball squad for the 2018 season, head coach Daron Schoenrock announced Thursday.
"We have enjoyed following Jackson's career at Bartlett High School and at Jackson State Community College and he will be a great addition as we strive to enhance our bullpen depth with this recruiting class. Jackson's ability to execute pitches late in game and in 'crunch time' situations serves our 2018 pitching well. We are thrilled with his decision to become a Tiger," Schoenrock said.
South logged 28 2/3 innings in 20 relief outings as a freshman for JSCC in 2016, compiling a 2-2 record and a 5.34 ERA. He struck out 22 batters during the season. South was an all-state player at Bartlett High School in 2015 and earned all-district honors in both 2014 and 2015. He helped lead his 2015 team to the TSSAA Class AAA State Final Four after winning district and region championships that season.
He is the son of Terri and Tommy South and his brother, Chris, pitched for the Tigers from 2005-07.
