MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Tigers, fresh off of their season-opening win over UTRGV on Monday step back onto the court at FedExForum on Wednesday evening for the second game in three days, as the Tigers face off against the Panthers of Milwaukee.

SETTING THE TABLE

* With the team's win on Monday, University of Memphis head coach Tubby Smith moved into a three-way tie for 62nd all-time in the NCAA wins record book, tying with Tony Hinkle and Greg Kampe.
* This season marks the first time since 2008-09 (Memphis' last NCAA Sweet 16 appearance) in which the team's first two games of the season are just a day apart.
* The 25 points scored by K.J. Lawson in the opener was the most by an individual in the first game of a season since Chris Douglas-Roberts opened the 2007-08 season with 28 points against UT-Martin.
* 2016-17 marks the first time that University of Memphis head coach Tubby Smith has faced off against the Milwaukee Panthers.
* Dedric Lawson's 18 career double-doubles rank as the 15th-most in program history.
* When Memphis wins the opening game of the season, the Tigers are 48-22 all-time in the second game to improve to 2-0.
* Memphis is 2-1 all-time on November 16, including an 81-70 victory over UConn in the 2007 season.
* There are four schools within the state border of Wisconsin, and the University of Memphis has faced every one of them at least once, including former Conference USA foe Marquette, whom the Tigers have faced 26 times. Memphis is 18-13 all-time against teams from the Badger State.

Scouting the panthers

Milwaukee comes into Wednesday's game after an 88-58 win over NCAA Division III Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on November 11.
In the 30-point win, the Panthers had five players reach double-figures in the scoring column, led by Brock Stull and Cody Wichmann, who each scored 13 points. Cameron Harvey and Jeremy Johnson each scored 11, while Jeremiah Bell added 10 off of the bench. Stull pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double, with the Panthers dishing out 18 assists against just 11 turnovers, while forcing 13 turnovers of their own.

Please refer to Milwaukee as only Milwaukee. The University is still University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; however, their athletics brand is labeled as only Milwaukee.

MILWAUKEE TIES

Milwaukee assistant coach Todd Townsend played his college basketball at former Conference USA foe Marquette, and went 0-2 against the Tigers during his four seasons. In the first of the two meetings, on February 14, 2004, Townsend played five minutes and did not record a statistic. The second of the two, on January 13, 2005, he came off the bench in 18 minutes of action, scored three points (1-of-2 from long range) while adding an assist, turnover, and steal. He played an additional game at FedExForum, as his Marquette squad fell 60-57 to TCU in the Conference USA Tournament. He scored 14 points with eight rebounds in the loss to the Horned Frogs on March 9, 2005.

HOME IN MILWAUKEE

Of the many players to put on the Blue and Gray for the University of Memphis include two former players who claimed Milwaukee as their hometown. The pair are Calvin Godfrey (2015), and Jermaine Ousley (1997-99). Additionally, one other former Tiger: Chris Hawkins (2015, Sun Prairie, Wis.) is from the state of Wisconsin.

HORIZON LEAGUE

The Horizon League hosts schools in six states along America's upper midwest. The league runs as far east as Youngstown State, as far south as Northern Kentucky, and as far north and west as Green Bay.

BIG SCORING IN THE OPENER

In the season opener, redshirt freshman K.J. Lawson scored 25 points, which was the most points scored in a season opener since 2007 when Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 28 points in the season opener.

The combination for the Lawson's - 44 points - is the third-highest total since 1999-00, behind just the 45 from CDR and Derrick Rose in 2007-08, and the 45 scored by Will Barton and Wesley Witherspoon from 2011-12.

MEMPHIS VS THE HORIZON LEAGUE

Memphis has a stellar mark all-time against teams from the Horizon League, a 10-1 mark overall. The Tigers' one blemish came on February 28, 1985, when the Tigers fell 71-66 at Detroit. The Tigers that season fell in the Final Four.
