Tigers Rifle Back In Top-10 Of National Poll

Memphis is No. 9 this week, has 10-2 record vs. ranked teams this season.
MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Memphis rifle squad is ranked No. 9 in this week's Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. The Tigers moved up two positions from No. 11 in last week's CRCA poll.
Prior to last week, Memphis was No. 8 in the nation and dropped three spots to No. 11 in the Oct. 19 poll, before moving back in the top-10 at No. 9 this week.
This year's Memphis squad is following a similar pattern from a year ago. Last season, the Tigers were ranked No. 8 in the Nov. 4 CRCA poll and dropped to No. 12 the following week (Nov. 11). In the Nov. 18, 2015, poll, Memphis jumped back in the top-10 and remained there the remainder of the campaign.
In 2016-17, the Tigers have a 10-2 record against opponents ranked in the CRCA poll. In addition, Memphis has a 5-0 mark against Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foes, including road wins at No. 14 Navy and No. 16 Army. The other three GARC wins were over No. 12 Akron and No. 15 Ole Miss twice.
Memphis last competed Oct. 9-10 when it posted GARC road wins over Navy and Army.
Four-time NCAA defending champion West Virginia is No. 1 in this week's poll. TCU is No. 2, followed by a tie at No. 3 with Air Force and Murray State and No. 5 Alaska-Fairbanks.
All nine Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) programs are in the poll with West Virginia at No. 1, followed by No. 6 Kentucky, No. 8 Nebraska, No. 9 Memphis, No. 10 N.C. State, No. 12 Akron, No. 14 Navy, No. 15 Ole Miss and No. 16 Army.
Memphis returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 29 when it hosts No. 19 UT Martin.
