OXFORD, Miss. – University of Memphis senior Jack Berhorst posted career bests in both smallbore and aggregate score to lift the Tigers rifle team to a third-place finish at the 2016 Ole Miss Open.
The Ole Miss Open was one of the Tigers' two opening matches of 2016-17, but the scores recently became official as teams took nearly a month to finish the event.
Memphis, ranked No. 11 in the most-recent Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll, placed third with a 4649 aggregate score. The Tigers finished behind only No. 5 Murray State and No. 6 Kentucky, respectively. Memphis defeated No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 14 Jacksonville State, No. 20 UT Martin and No. 19 North Georgia.
With the Ole Miss Open results finalized, Memphis now has a 10-2 record versus ranked opponents in 2016-17. The Tigers also have a 5-0 record in Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) matches, having defeated Akron, Army, Navy and Ole Miss twice so far this campaign.
