Goldenstein and Cabush in top 10 through first round.
MEMPHIS – Junior Emily Goldenstein and senior Leighann Cabush are both in the top 10 at the end of the first round at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational through the opening round. As a team, Memphis capped day one tied for third overall with a 293, one stroke behind second place Western Kentucky and five strokes behind day one leaders FIU.
Goldenstein opened her tournament with a birdie on the first hole and tossed in three more on holes eight, 12 and 16. She bogeyed 2, 6 and 10 and finished day one with a 71 (-1), good for a tie for eighth.
Cabush had three bogeys in her first five holes, but standing at +3, she birdied three straight holes, seven, eight and nine, to get back to even at the turn. She played even over the last nine holes to hit the clubhouse with an even par 72, good for a tie for 10th overall.
Sophomore Sydney Colwill was also even on her back nine after shooting +3 on her opening nine to finish the day with a 75 (+3), good for a tie for 28th overall. She is tied there with teammate Michaela Fletcher. Fletcher had a tough stretch between four and nine, carding four bogeys. But the redshirt sophomore settled in on the back side, golfing an even 36 on the back to finish with a 75.
Freshman Abby Herrmann, playing in her first tournament on the team entry, carded an opening round 77, which included three birdies, to end day one in a tie for 39th overall.
Florida's Samantha Wagner, competing as an individual in the tournament, posted five birdies for a day one 67 (-5) to lead the overall individual standings. Host FIU leads the team scores with an opening round 288.
Memphis' tee times for the second round will begin at 9:00 a.m. (ET), Monday.
