MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team is back in action in tournament play, starting Monday at the Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri, at The Club at Ole Hawthorne.
The Lady Tigers will send a team entry consisting of Leighann Cabush, Michaela Fletcher, Emily Goldenstein, Madison Thomas and Andrea Cropper and will send freshman Abby Herrmann to compete in her first collegiate event as an individual entry.
The teams, which include Akron, East Tennessee, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, Fresno State, Kennesaw State, Long Beach, Mercer, Missouri, North Texas, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, Troy and Little Rock, will play two rounds on Monday, with a shot gun start at 8 a.m. The final round of play be played Tuesday, beginning at 8 a.m.
The Johnie Imes Invitational has a little extra motivation for players this year. The tournament is teaming with Mizzou in a pediatric cancer fundraiser as part of the Rally for Rhyan. Each team in the tournament has been paired with a child affected by pediatric cancer. Memphis has been teamed with seven-year-old Cal Strahm from Kansas, who was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma at age 4. After chemotherapy and surgery, he underwent radiation and antibody therapy. He then spent two years on a clinical trial aimed at keeping him in remission. Information on Cal can be found here:

Memphis fans who wish to contribute to the Rally for Rhyan at the Johnie Imes can donate at http://admin.mutigers.com/sports/2015/10/12/RallyForRhyan.aspx. As part of the golf tournament, Memphis fans are encouraged to mention Memphis women's golf when they make their donations.
Rhyan is the daughter of assistant basketball coach Brad Loos. He is the son of former Memphis men's basketball player Dave Loos, who is currently the head coach at Austin Peay State.
