Tigers Rifle Defeats Army Monday

Memphis wins in West Point for first time in program history.
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The University of Memphis rifle team made it an East Coast sweep.
For the first time in program history, the Tigers won at Army, posting a 4652-4641 victory over the Black Knights Monday. The win at Army followed Memphis' 4669-4648 victory at Navy Sunday and gave the Tigers a 2-0 record on their road swing.
The match was the second Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) encounter in as many days for the Tigers.
Memphis, ranked No. 10 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll, won both disciplines over No. 13 Army. The Tigers out-shot the Black Knights 2308-2299 in smallbore, and also edged the home team in air rifle 2344-2342.
Freshman Levi Clark, who had a 1168 aggregate score in Sunday's win over Navy, did one better Monday with a 1169 versus Army (582-587). Clark had Monday's top aggregate score, after placing second against Navy Sunday. The Clackamas, Ore., native placed first in smallbore with a 582. He was third in air rifle with a 587.
Senior Amy Fister followed Clark with a second-place aggregate score (1166). Fister shot a 582 in smallbore to also place second behind Clark. She was seventh in air rifle with a 584.
Sophomore Leighton Dempster posted a 1157 aggregate score (567-590) to secure sixth place. She won the air rifle discipline with her 590 score. Dempster's air rifle mark was her best performance in the discipline since early February last season. She shot a 591 in a tri-match with Kentucky and Murray State.
Memphis returns to competition Oct. 22 when it hosts No. 19 UT Martin.
