Kauker named to the American Weekly Honor Roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two more University of Memphis men's soccer players have been recognized by the American Athletic Conference after the team went 2-0 this past week. Burke Fahling earned his second Rookie of the Week recognition and senior Kenneth Kauker was named to the American's Weekly Honor Roll.
This is the first time in Kauker's career that he had been recognized by the conference. This is also the first time since joining the American Athletic Conference that a player has earned multiple Rookie of the Week honors in the same season.
"After winning this weekend, it's important that individuals are getting recognized," said head coach Richard Mulrooney.
Fahling registered a goal against UCF and an assist against Lipscomb this week. His goal helped propel Memphis to a 3-2 victory over the Knights and grant the Tigers its first American victory of the season. His assist against Lipscomb was the first of his career.
He now has two goals on the year to rank second on the Tiger squad.
"He played a huge part in the game Saturday night," added Mulrooney about Fahling.
Kauker racked up his first goal of the season as well as first assist in the win Saturday night. Kauker also helped lead the backline to allowing just three shots on goal by UCF. The shutout victory against Lipscomb on Wednesday was the sixth shutout of the year.
"KK's been doing that all year. He does a lot of unfinished business that people don't always recognize. For him to finally be recognized, being a part of the back line, I couldn't be happier for him," said Mulrooney.
This is the first season where Kauker has exclusively played on the back line. He has started and played in every match this season.
Memphis will return to the pitch Saturday night, for an American Athletic Conference match against SMU. Kick-off against the Mustangs is set for 7 p.m. and the first 100 fans into the Mike Rose Soccer Complex will receive a custom Memphis soccer scarf.
