Two School Records Set At Vanderbilt Invitational Action Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two school records and two near school records highlighted the University of Memphis men's and women's track and field teams' second-day action at the 2016 Vanderbilt Invitational Saturday.
Carolina Carmichael and Martina Rodriguez Sala set the school marks in the pole vault and mile, respectively. Carmichael won Saturday's pole vault event with a school-record mark of 14-0.75 (4.29m). She broke her own program record of 13-11.75 which she set last season.
For the second week in a row, Rodriguez set a program record, this time in the mile. Rodriguez Sala placed 10th in the mile in a school-record time of 4:50.79. She broke the previous program record of 4:51.44 set by Louisa Lingley in 2013.
Last week, Rodriguez Sala set the school record in the 3000m with a time of 9:45.42. She broke the record held by Danielle Reindeau, who ran a 9:47.70 in 2006.
The two near school records came on the men's side. LaForrest Church won the 800m in a time of 1:49.65 and came within .63 seconds of the school record (1:49.02). It was the second 800m title for Church this season, who also won the 800m at the Commodore Indoor Opener Dec. 5, 2015.
The other near record was in the men's 4x400m. The Tigers placed eighth in a time of 3:16.46 and was .56 seconds off the school record set in 1983. Saturday's 4x400m relay team was Jason Kimmet, Juan Green, Antaun Andrews and Lucas Miller.
Overall, Memphis had four top-three finishes Saturday. In addition to Carmichael's and Church's first-place performances, Alex Klatt was second in the men's 800m, and Chardae Greenlee was second in the women's triple jump. Klatt ran a 1:50.10 in the 800m. Greenlee posted a 41-8.75 (12.72m) mark in the triple jump.
