Memphis Baseball Camp Opens
Jan 29, 2016 | Baseball
Starting today the Memphis baseball team will spend the next three weeks firming up the foundation for the 2016 season. Preseason camp is officially underway for the Tigers and the next three weeks are all about preparing for the 56-game regular season.
"I'm excited that we are going to get to play all three days this weekend to let some of the young guys know how their body feels after a three-game series," Memphis head coach Daron Schoenrock said. "They are excited to play, now they have to show up ready to play tomorrow. You learn to slice things up into one-day increments and that's how you lay a foundation."
The season opens with a three-game series against in-state rival Tennessee, in Chattanooga, on February 18. The squad will get an early taste of the road, as 10 of the Tigers' first 14 games of the season will be away from FedExPark.
"The excitement to play today was very high. We ran very aggressively and did some things I like. Now I want to see that continue. Our hustle plays were all there today. The defensive things will get cleaned up as we got more reps on the field. All in all the hitting and pitching concepts were very good today," said Schoenrock.
Memphis will be back on the field Saturday at noon for the team's second scrimmage and will close out the first weekend of camp on Sunday with another scrimmage at 2:10 p.m.
