Tigers Rifle Third At Withrow Invitational

Lee's fifth-place air rifle, 10th-place aggregate effort leads squad.
MURRAY, Ky. – Senior Beth Lee was the University of Memphis' top finisher in both air rifle and aggregate score to lift the No. 9 nationally-ranked Tigers squad to a third-place performance at Murray State's annual Withrow Invitational this past weekend. Junior Jack Berhorst posted the team's top smallbore score.
Memphis placed third with a team aggregate score of 4651, posting marks of 2298 in smallbore and 2353 in air rifle. The Tigers were fourth in smallbore and tied for second in air rifle.
Memphis placed third overall behind No. 2 Murray State and No. 8 Nebraska. The Tigers finished ahead of No. 12 Jacksonville State, No. 16 Ole Miss and No. 20 UT Martin.
Lee shot a 592 in air rifle and placed fifth in the discipline. The 592 score was one shy of tying her career best. Lee recorded a 574 in smallbore for an aggregate score of 1166, placing her 10th among all shooters at the invitational.
Following Lee in air rifle was sophomore Makennon Doran, who was 16th with a score of 588. Freshman Leighton Dempster was the Tigers' third-highest finisher in air rifle, coming 20th with a 587.
Berhorst paced the team's effort in smallbore, placing ninth with a 580. Junior Amy Fister (18th; 575) and Lee (19th; 574) were the Tigers' next two highest finishers in that discipline.
Memphis returns to action Jan. 30 when it travels to Lexington, Ky., to face No. 3 Kentucky in a Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) encounter. Match time is 7 a.m. (CT).
