Goodwin Named as Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - University of Memphis senior Shaq Goodwin has been named as one of 30 men's basketball candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.Â
An acrronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four.
Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches, and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best ecemplify excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character, and competition.

Goodwin is second on the Tigers in scoring (13.8) and rebounding (8.3) this season, while leading the team and American Athletic Conference in blocked shots (35). He reached his 1,000th career point earlier in the season, and currently stands 30th in program history in career scoring (1,177), ninth in career rebounds (735), and eighth in career blocks (171) in Memphis basketball history.
Earlier this season he was also named as one of 20 finalists for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year award, given by the Naismith Hall of Fame, and as a nominee for the Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Good Works Team.
