Goodwin and Lawson complete fourth weekly honors sweep in AAC history
MEMPHIS, Tenn.Ā - Memphis fowards Shaq Goodwin and Dedric Lawson have swept the American Athletic Conference weekly honors, with Goodwin earning his third career AAC Player of the Week honor, while Lawson tied the AAC record for number of Rookie of the Week honors won in a season.

The pair helped lead Memphis to a 2-0 week, with wins over Temple (67-65) and USF (71-56).Ā The first sweep of AAC awards came on December 2, 2013, when Goodwin won Player of the Week and Austin Nichols Rookie of the Week. A year later, the UConn pair of Ryan Boatright (Player of the Week) and Daniel Hamilton (Rookie of the Week) swept the honors on November 24. On March 2, it was UConn's Rodney Purvis and Hamilton that took home the weekly honors, the most recent sweep prior to this Monday.

Goodwin, a senior from Atlanta, Georgia, averaged 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the week. He alsoĀ dished out two assists, blocked five shots, and grabbed three steals.Ā Against Temple he scored 22 points while pulling down 10 rebounds, adding four blocked shots, three steals, and an assist. He hit 7-of-14 shots from the field and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe. In the team's win against South Florida, he scored 13 points while pulling down six rebounds. He shot 3-of-11 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line, and also added one assist and one block.

His three all-time Player of the Week honors puts Goodwin in a tie for second-most in a career in AAC history. Shabazz Napier won five Player of the Week awards, while Goodwin is tied with Sean Kilpatrick and Justin Jackson of Cincinnati, and current Tulsa guard James Woodard.

For the season Goodwin averages 13.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He leads the AAC in blocked shots (35), and is shooting 48.3 percent (69-of-143) from the field and 72.8 percent (83-of-114) from the charity stripe.Ā

Lawson, a freshman from Memphis, Tennessee, averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds per game in wins over Temple and South Florida. He also averaged three assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game. Against Temple he scored 16 points with 12 rebounds, and he hit 4-of-14 field goals, 3-of-6 from long range, and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Against the Owls he added three assists, two blocked shots, and one steal. Against South Florida he scored 18 points with 12 rebounds. Lawson hit 5-of-17 shots from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe and also added three assists, one block, and one steal against the Bulls.

The Rookie of the Week honor is Lawson's fifth, tying with Chris Perry of USF for the most such honors in AAC history.Ā

This season Lawson leads Memphis in scoring (14.5), rebounding (8.9), and stands second on the team in blocked shots (33), steals (21), and assists (41). He has seven double-doubles this season, which is tied for fourth-best among all freshman in NCAA Division I. His 8.9 rebounds per game ranks fourth-best among freshman, while his 2.1 blocked shots per game are seventh best of NCAA freshmen.
