Dedric Laws Earns Fourth Rookie of the Week Honor of Season
Jan 11, 2016 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis freshman Dedric Lawson has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, as Shaq Lawson was named to the AAC Honor Roll.
The award, Lawson's fourth of the season, puts him one away from tying the AAC record for most Rookie of the Week honors in a season, currently held by Chris Perry of USF. With his four, he has moved into a four-way tie for second-most such honors, joining Daniel Hamilton (UConn), B.J. Tyson (East Carolina), and Austin Nichols.
Lawson averaged 11 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the week, while adding four assists, three steals, and two blocked shots. He scored 12 points in the first game of the week, hitting 5-of-14 from the field and 1-of-3 from long range. He also added eight rebounds against Nicholls, while adding a career-high-tying three steals. At No. 23 UConn, he scored 10 points, hitting 4-of-14 shots from the field, and 2-of-6 from long range while adding four rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot.
Goodwin scored 23 points in his only game of the week against UConn, where he hit 6-of-9 shots from the field and 11-of-12 free throws. He also pulled down five rebounds and added a blocked shot before fouling out with just over a minute to play in the game.
The Tigers, 10-5 on the season, host the Temple Owls on Wednesday, January 13, in a 7 p.m. tip-off at FedExForum.
