Get To Know Me: Chelsea Ladd

GoTigersGo.com caught up with each member of this year's cross country squads. Today's feature is sophomore Chelsea Ladd, who was one of four Tigers to compete in all six meets in 2014. This past Saturday, Ladd was Memphis' second finisher at the 2015 season-opening Brooks Twilight Classic. As a freshman in 2014-15, she was named to the Tiger 3.0 Club both semesters.

How did you get into distance running?

I did road races with my mom when I was little. But, I really got into it when I tried out for every single sport in middle school and never made any of the teams, so I decided I would run cross country and track because there were no tryouts (LOL!) and it just kind of became my thing.

What has been your most embarrassing moment in a meet/event?

Definitely my freshman year of high school when I fell on the first lap of my 3200m race at the state championships meet and face-planted in front of everybody.

How many times have people told you distance running is outrageous? How do you respond to them?

I get that pretty much any time I tell somebody I'm a distance runner. I just tell them it takes a special love and passion for it. Even though I love what I do, there is still a love/hate relationship I have for it.

If you weren't a distance runner, what track and field event would you like to compete in?

I would love to pole vault. I never got to actually watch the event until I got to the University of Memphis, and I thought it was so fun much to watch.

What is the best advice you can give to young distance runners?

Never give up. It may sound like simple advice, but it is the most important. If you can stay dedicated, work hard and never give up, you will see results and be successful.

Pop Culture

Read the book or watch the movie? Why? Watch the movie for sure. I only read if absolutely necessary.

Which form of social media do you prefer the most? Why? Instagram. I'd rather just look at pictures than read through posts.

What song can you not help to sing along to (name song and artist)? Any Taylor Swift song. Even if I hate the song, I literally cannot help but to sing along.

Miscellaneous

When not at practice, what can someone find you doing?

Sleeping, watching Netflix, doing homework, or hanging out with my friends

What did you do this past summer?

I worked 9-10 hours everyday and ran each day once I got off work. I did, however, go on a mission trip for seven days to El Salvador, which was pretty awesome.

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

I would probably take a year off from the real world and travel around to all the places I've always wanted to go to and see.

If you were a superhero, what super power would you have?

I would want the ability of super speed because, for some reason, I always find myself running late to everything.

If you could compete in another sport, which sport would it be? Why?

Soccer. I've always thought that soccer looked like so much fun, and it still involves a lot of running and being active. If I had the coordination for it, I would definitely play soccer.
